Puff Wheat Squares

This recipe is a stand by - a kids (and adults) favourite. 

it is important to test the syrup by dripping some on an ice cube.  It should have the consistency of sticky caramel.  It is very easy to get sidetracked by this step and forget to pour the syrup over the puff wheat.

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup syrup
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 8 cups puffed wheat
Melt butter in saucepan.  Add syrup, sugar, cocoa and vanilla.  When syrup begins to bubble (heat slowly though) remove from heat.  Pour over puffed wheat and mix well.  Spoon into a non-stick 9 x 12 pan.  Cool.  Cut into squares.
